3123 - Big Sur, California, FILM FRIENDLY, 300 miles from Los Angeles,  100 from San Francisco,  closest airport is Monterey/Carmel airport,  20 miles north of Big Sur

Inspired by architect Rowan Maiden, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, who also designed Big Sur's famed Nepenthe, the house was built in the 1950's by Frank and Walter Trotter. "The Trotter Brothers", as they were locally know, were themselves part of Big Sur's early pioneering family's. The Trotters were renowned builders often working in epic proportion and scale as in the case of Nepenthe.
The home shares a similar version of this scale and proportion with its nearby Nepenthe cousin, with an open beamed cantilevered roof, massive exposed redwood joist supports, and rows and rows of windows. This home is a stunning example of Big Sur's indigenous architecture, reflecting the area's own dramatic geography, climate, and history.
It is built primarily of redwood which was milled on site from local old growth redwood trees. The house itself is situated in an ideal site. Nestled in the foothills of the Santa Lucia mountains, southward facing with unsurpassed views of the Big Sur river valley as it drains into the Pacific, yet protected from wind and coastal fog. The home straddles the various ecosystems of the steep land as it transitions from California bay, redwood, tanoak and live coastal oak to high chaparral. This location insures the house an abundance of year round sunshine tempered by cooling breezes and shade.
